Dwight already gave a good answer. For me, the MLO "goal" is a way to structure the so-called "opportunity now" list in 1MTD/MYN terminology. There, you have three lists "critical now", "opportunity now" and "over the horizon". I use the star in MLO for my "critical now" tasks, and I use the week/month/year goals to mark my "opportunity now" tasks. Everything else is "over the horizon". The 1MTD/MYN methodology also has a "significant outcome" list for which I am using MLO flags. It is important that you review the tasks and their categorization in weekly, monthly and yearly reviews.
