Before complaining... I really do think Android v2 is a massive improvement and finally usable for those of us deeply, heavily and constantly invested in using the desktop versions. But I'm still struggling in two areas.
Limitations and restrictions in previous versions of the mobile apps made it impossible to work with hundreds of carefully arranged, grouped and scheduled projects, tasks and activities. The desktop version is wonderful at taking the big picture and allowing you to see what you need to see when you need to see it. For many of us, context, location, importance, etc., is only helpful if it's timely and within its organizational structure. With Android v1 you either had to use a view that was overly long and wide, or make some unnatural changes to the actual structure and grouping... at last I can narrow my view and focus to something manageable (I don't need to print views and carry them around all day). However, importing custom views is a little disappointing. The one level limitation in the app means that the imported view grouping and sorting options are changed or ignored, which changes the overall view. The ability to create slightly customized views is a great function but I haven't found a single customize view that I can actually import from the desktop because so many options don't exist in the app. And, the Today view is not exactly what I expected for the long-awaited Calendar View. I'm still trying to find a use for it but there is a major problem with how it ignores overdue tasks and refuses to look backward. Seeing that I need to cook a meal today (or tomorrow) is useful but it assumes that I made a list and went shopping! It's just a look at what I should be doing in a perfect world, not a view of where I am in the real world. I'm hopeful that eventually I'll really be able to create a single structured view of what needs attention today or tomorrow or at any time I want to see like I do on the desktop. I know (professionally) that you can't clone a lot of functionality between platforms, but sorting, grouping and comparing all do the same thing. Multiple parent relationships are identified and presented in some views but purposely omitted in others. Overdue tasks are known and presented in some views but purposely omitted in others. It's not like the options and functions don't exist... they do, but they are purposely removed. Android v2 was a worthy upgrade but I'm perplexed by the value of not including options in some views that already exist in others. Memory, screen space, etc., are not a problem… there’s already plenty of scrolling and fly-outs, and the code is already there for other views. Am I crazy for wanting the options extended to ALL views?? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MyLifeOrganized" group.
