Dwight,
Thanks for the detailed response with work-arounds. It doesn't sound
like MLO can do exactly what I want. I think it would be a useful
feature though, so hopefully they will add it at some point. What I've
been doing when I encounter a blocked or pending task is to just move it
down the task list one or two places. Although it removes it from To-Do
list, it reappears later (once the preceding tasks are completed) to
remind me to check on it. Another option I came across that does
something similar is set a future start date for the blocked task (next
day or two). I may start doing that, as that seems a bit easier.
Your trick of making it and the next task subtasks would keep it on the
To-Do list, and I will try that the next time I really want that
constant reminder.
Thanks again for your help.

Hi, Pat. As with anything in MLO there are multiple ways to do this,
and you should pick the one that you are most comfortable with.
I think that the easiest way to set aside a blocked task is to tick
the "hide branch in to-do" box for the blocked task. The blocked task
will vanish from your to do list and will be shown in grey on your
all-tasks list. The blocked task will be replaced with the next task,
if you complete that task, the following one will appear and so on.
When you clear the "hide" indicator for the blocked task it will
re-appear on the to-do list.
This is simple and easy but it does not meet your requirement that the
blocked task remain on the to-do list. You could address this by
building a custom view that shows both active actions and also hidden
tasks. This will get you exactly the view you want, but it is no
longer easy or simple. If you want to try this solution and you would
like help setting it up, let me know.
Here is an easier way to get multiple tasks into the view. Suppose
that you have a project with ten subtasks, numbered 1 through 10. Task
3 is blocked and you want to work on task 4.
- First, add a new task above the blocked task (between task 2 and
task 3.)
- Mark the new task as a folder
- Move the blocked task and the following task into the folder. On
Windows, you can select the blocked task and click the left-pointing
arrow in the header, then do it again for the following task.
Now, all tasks in the folder will appear in your to-do list. But if
you finish the following task, all you will see will be the blocked
task. The task after the following task will not appear unless you
move it into the folder as well.

I generally have my projects set so subtasks are completed in order.
However, I often run into situations where I can't complete a task
because I'm waiting for a response from another party. In that case
I would like to keep that subtask in the To-Do list (with maybe a
note that it's pending) but allow the next subtask in the project to
show in the To-Do list also. Is there anyway to do that? If not,
that would be a very useful feature to add imo!
Thanks.
