I am unclear whether the problem is that MLO is creating a relative link in your task note when you wanted a direct link, or whether you have an appropriate direct link in your task note and MLO is opening it incorrectly. It sounds like you are talking about MLO opening an existing link incorrectly but the setting you are talking about (if I'm not mistaken), for using relative paths, affects the creation of new links, not the opening of existing links.
Try turning off relative paths, creating a new direct link, and opening it. Is the created link correct? Does it open correctly? In the event that you have managed to create an inappropriate relative link using MLO, I do not believe that there is any way to use MLO to repair it or open it correctly, you just have to delete the inapproproate like and replace it with a correct one.
