Lasse: that's a good scheme, in my view it could be better.

The downside, in my opinion, of every scheme that tries to assign items to time slots is that it almost never plays out exactly as planned. There are interruptions, unplanned tasks, delays because you have to read some totally irrelevant but fascinating thing that caught your eye, emergencies and timeslots that get overscheduled because I am always overconfident of my own productivity. As a result, every time a timeslot closes and the next one opens I am faced with rejiggering some number of tasks to create a new schedule. There have been times in my life when I have spent more time on the rejiggering than I have on just getting the tasks finished. But why is all this necessary? I have all my tasks in a marvelously sophisticated task manager which knows what I am trying to achieve, how soon I am trying to achieve, what time it is, etc. Why can't the program do this for me? Why can't the computer change all the "tomorrow" tasks to "today" at end-of-day? and change "next week" to "this week" at the weekend?

Here's what I came up with

Instead of changing the tag on a task from next week to this week on the weekend, I write rules that look at how long ago a task was scheduled using DateTimeModified. If a task is flagged to be done within a day, show it. If it is flagged to be completed second day, include it in the view if DateTimeModified is less than Now-1 (ie if scheduled a day ago or more) and turn it red if DateTimeModified is less than Now-2. Also, if the task is flagged for next week, include it if DateTimeModified is less than Now-7 and turn it red if DateTimeModified is less than now-14. and so on

It's a good point though.

I use flags to "cherry pick" from my active actions. They describe the
time horizon (Today most important; Today; Tomorrow; Week; Weekend;
Week_Next etc. etc.).
That's my closest equivalent of something where I can jot down and chart
out my day.
