I can come close but not perfect. Try this: set the main filter to whatever you have in mind <or> (is project with subtasks). Configure hierarchy to show children but not parents, and configure the child filter to your original filter criterion.
Result, just what I think you want, with one exception: if a project that has subtasks all of which fail the original filter then the project should be excluded but it is in fact included. Example, I have a profile with two contexts, @set and @clear. I want to see all of the @set tasks and any parent that is a project. Full profile Main Filter Hierarchy filter Children Filter Result Result looks good to me except that "project with clear child" and "project with clear grandchild" should not be displayed.
