I'll add my two cents here as well.

I don't like using insert as the hot key as it takes me away from my usual 
key position so I've gone in and changed the hotkey (tools>options>hotkeys) 
to ctrl + n, a lot more convenient.

It is weird not just being able to press enter and start a new line though, 
that seems to be standard practice everywhere else in the world
