Like Wallace and Kamajo, I use a context to tag a task as -Superseded (in my case, the hyphen character puts this at the bottom of my list of contexts, after all the ones with an @ tag or a ? tag). I then check it off close it. I know that's still three clicks, or two clicks and tapping the spacebar, or a shortcut key and a tap on the spacebar, but I hope it helps.
I've also created an Autoformatting rule to put a little red *x* in icon position 0, right next to the task completion checkbox.
