I don't think you are missing anything.
This is another reason I think that Markdown used for this purpose is a 
particularly bad idea.
Need to be able to format items in the note window like you would in MS 
Word or as you do in this Google Groups page I am using right *now*.  
The app should be designed to make it easy to use and transfer info in and 
out and see the same formatting follow into and from other Windows apps

Need to be able to copy in images, hyperlinks, and do automatic outline and 
paragraph formatting.
