I thought I had posted this but I don't see it, apologies if you get 
duplicates.

Like most things in MLO there are many different ways to do this and the 
"best" one depends on how you personally manage your tasks. My solution 
would be to make your "main tasks" into projects. You could then have an 
overview based on the "projects" view which would hide everything but the 
main tasks. Added bonus" the projects would each show a progress bar which 
would let you know at a glance, without opening the list of subtasks, how 
far along the work had gotten on each of the main tasks.
