I can confirm that behaviour. Of course, if you have your tasks *only 
*displayed 
by reminder, then the reminder *has to *be set for today in order for the 
new task to be displayed where you are in the Today view. If you're in that 
view looking at a day in the future, then it sets the reminder for 9am on 
that day instead. If you have the Today view set to display by start and 
due date as well, then the new task also gets the appropriate date set.

So, it's doing what's intended, in order for the Today view to function and 
to show the new tasks. It can be argued that it's useful, because that 10 
minute reminder can prompt you to set a more suitable reminder time for the 
tasks you've just entered, after you've finished all your task entries in 
the Today view.

In fact, these features are so useful, that I think I'm going to be 
starting to use the Today view for entry of new tasks for specific dates.
