I answered my own question:

Simply select multiple tasks, then use Advanced Copy as Text (using the 
defaults), then click on 'create new task' in Google Tasks, and then paste 
into that new task.  Google Tasks the creates separate tasks for each 
one.   This nice paste feature is not documented as far as I know...
