I hadn't noticed this before, because I have most Workspaces set up to "sync selection with first tab". I've just tested it, though, and found that even when a workspace is not set to sync selection, it follows any expansion of branches in the outline that I do in the first tab. I agree that it would be better if the outline expansion was independent for each tab.
