I agree that Dashboard isn't the most intuitive word for me either. I think 
of Dashboard like in an automobile.  Monitoring the current state of speed, 
engine temp, miles driven, what song I'm listening too ( ha ha).  But what 
the MLO dashboard actually IS, is more helpful to me than what we are 
calling a "dashboard".
