Hi, Mr/Ms Alsatian This is a simple issue that sometimes gets more complex side issues. I'm going to assume that you are doing this on a Windows system (or one that's emulating Windows) and that you are not synchronizing with MLO on any other computers, tablets or phones.

The first thing is to be certain that you understand the difference between the order of tasks in your database versus the order in your view. If you understand this and what you really want is just to have a view that will retain your manual sort, go to the last paragraph.

The order you see your tasks in when you open the "all tasks" view (if you have not modified the view definition) is the order of the database. If you have not changed the view, skip over the next procedure. If you have changed the view definition, or you are unsure whether you may have done so, follow this procedure.
1. Be sure the "task view sidebar" is showing on the left side of your screen. Hold down the ALT key and hit F1 a few times. The sidebar will flash on and off. Stop hitting F1 when the sidebar is on.
2. Does the top line of the sidebar say "views" If so, go to step 4. Otherwise it will show you the view you currently have open. If it is "All Tasks" go to step 6.
3. Click on the view name in the top of the sidebar. It should change to "Views" and the sidebar content should be a list of all known views.
4. scroll down the list of views until you find "All Tasks". Click on "all tasks" and your main screen is now showing the "all tasks" view
5. Click on the top of the sidebar where it says "Views" and it will change to "All Tasks". The sidebar display will turn to the specifications for the "all tasks" view.
6. Look at the button at the bottom of the sidebar. What does it say?
  > if it says "save view as" then you are ready.
  > if it says "discard changes", then you have changed the default view. Click this button to discard your changes and reset the button to "save view as"

Your main screen is now showing you the database structure. Any changes you make while you are here should be permanent, meaning you can go away and come back and as long as you are still looking at an unmodified "all tasks" view your task order will be unchanged. (Except if you have made other changes in the meantime like adding tasks.)

Now let's talk about your task views. I don;t know what you have in mind when you reference your default task view or your general task view. Maybe you are using "all tasks" as your working view. That would probably be a mistake, because it means that you wiill be constantly re-sorting the database every time your priorities change or you run out of time for something. Over time your database will get bigger and more cluttered and it will become a bigger job to keep it re-sorted correctly. A more usual way to handle this would be to start with one of the pre-defined "to-do" lists. For example, go back to the list of views and select "active actions". This view will show you all of the tasks that are active (meaning the start time's not in the future, the context's not closed, the task isn't dependent on some other task that's not yet completed, etc, etc.) sorted according to MLO's understanding of priority, which is called Computed-Score. If the tasks are not coming out in the right order you can influence it by raising or lowering parameters like importance or urgency or . If you are feeling like a software engineer you could try customizing the completed-score algorithm, which is all explained in the users manual. Or you could ditch computed-score entirely (I did, I am good at complex stuff but computed-score was too complex for me) and do the following:
1. Go into each one of your tasks and specify an importance code from 0 to 200
2.  open the view you want t start with, such as Active Actions, and bring up the specifications for the view you are using (follow the procedure above but for "active Actions" rather than "All Tasks"
3. scroll down the specifications to find a section with the title "group&sort". Click on the title a few time to open and close the section, and stop when it's open.
4. Click on the button that says "sort"
5. In the "sorting" window that opens, make sure the checkbox for "manual sorting" is clear, then change the first text box from "computed-score" (or anything else that might be there) to "importance". Make sure the "descending" button is set and that all the other text boxes say "none"
6. click the "ok" button
7. At the bottom of the sidebar, if the button says "discard changes", click the arrow next to the button and select "save changes as". When the button savs "save changes as', click it and pick a name for your new view, like "to-do today" or whatever you like.
This view will show your active tasks in order of importance.

But if you really want to do the work by manually rearranging your tasks, go back to the "sorting" window, set all of the task boxes to "none" and turn on manual sorting. Warning: if you are syncing to another machine, the sort will not sync. If you need that, come back and ask for more advice.

I've manually resorted my default task view. Is there someway to save that sort order, so that it appears in that same overder whenever I open the general task view?  Every time I reopen it after closing MLO, it gets resorted into what seems like a random order. --
