Imagine staring at your MyLifeOrganized (MLO) task list, overwhelmed. Those
importance and urgency sliders seem promising, but how do you truly wield
their power? Let me share a strategy that transformed my MLO experience.
Unlocking the Potential of Sliders

MLO's sliders range from 0 to 200. The standard approach suggests using
only half of each: importance (0-100, sliding left) and urgency (100-200,
sliding right). This prevents child tasks from exceeding their parent's
importance or having lower urgency. However, this method underutilizes the
sliders' full potential. My approach leverages the existing "start and due"
date functionality for urgency and repurposes the urgency slider to
represent "effort."
The Effort-Importance Matrix

   1.

*Redefining Urgency as Effort:* Since MLO's start and due dates
effectively manage urgency, the urgency slider is reimagined as the
"Effort" slider. This slider also uses the lower half (25-50), but
counterintuitively, *lower* values represent *higher* effort. Think of
it like golf: a lower score is better. 25 signifies maximum effort, while
50 signifies minimal effort. This allows for granular control over effort
   estimation.
   2.

   *Importance Remains Key:*
Use only the range between *25 and 100 units*. Always slide left to
ensure that child tasks are not more important than their parent tasks.
This prevents the creation of child tasks that overshadow their parents in
   importance.
   3.

*Calculating the Priority Score:* The priority score combines importance
and effort, with importance weighted at 75% and effort at 25%.

Why This System Works

This approach offers several advantages:

   - The 25-50 and 25-100 ranges for effort and importance, respectively,
provide more balanced control between those indicators. Also, it helps to
leverage the MLO's quick-set options (25, 50, 100) in the App and Software.
   - *Balanced Prioritization:* Weighting importance and effort allows for
a nuanced prioritization strategy that considers both the value of the
   outcome and the resources required.
   - *Efficient Use of Features:* Leveraging the built-in start and due
dates for urgency frees up the urgency slider for the effort estimation to
be computed within the score, different from the actual 'effort' setting in
MLO that does not influence the computed-priority score at all.
