Perhaps I need to clarify why I said, "instead of using due date..."

Right, advanced filtering is not for changing a due date, in fact I mean to 
say it's not reasonable to keep changing the due date as if it didn't 
really need finished by that time. I'm suggesting different thinking.
In other words don't use due date as a "suggested but not really due"--save 
it for something with a deadline for example when is too late (sale price 
ends) or has penalty (late fees).

If I get it, you're trying to show a view filtering both the tasks due 
today/soon and these tasks that 'should' also be done today but won't go 
past due. This is why I'm saying find a way to basically tag those as daily 
tasks (also regenerating) so that your advanced filter view with your other 
tasks you should work on today.

The op has a good suggestion too; look at seeing tasks like daily or weekly 
goals. This is one way to basically tag those for a filtering...
