Raghavan, As I understand, Li-ion batteries can last for a fixed number of recharge cycles. However, it you deplete the battery to only 60% or so, it "doesn't count" as a recharge cycle (I don't know about this in any more detail).
So for optimum battery life you should either run it on AC power for most of the time and keep the laptop cool (as Joy suggested), or deplete it to 60% and charge again. P.S: I used to obsess over battery life for a while, but then got fed up with worrying about all the factors and just stopped caring. Li-ion batteries have a limited life, and *will* deplete no matter what you do.
