Lithium batteries are rated by their discharge cycles. Current
technology is 300 deep discharges (I believe another also posted that
number). Latest technologies will be rated for 500 discharges. IEEE
Spectrum (maybe one year ago) has an engineering article about this.
For example, some HP laptops have these longer lasting batteries in
consumer testing now.

Well, if you keep the battery fully charged, then its life
expectancy is longer. For example, American Prius have less MPG than
other Prius because EPA regulations also require the battery to last
longer. So American Prius do not discharge their NiMHd batteries below
50%. Less deep discharge cycles means longer battery life expectancy.

Laptops are not for using a computer anywhere. Laptop batteries are
for moving a computer or for temporary power outages. To use them in
the rare situation where power is not available. Those who use a
laptop as if you just refill it like gasoline in a car end up paying
$hundreds for new batteries. $hundreds because laptops are intended
to always be on AC if AC is anywhere available.
