Details:

The only available option to save work is by using "Save as..." which will do
exactly what it suggests: Saves the current progress in a file-format you can
specify. But it will also change the file which is being saved to when
issuing "Save", so it is basically possible, that a lot of information gets
lost (e.g. when you're working with layers, want to save your current
progress as png/jpeg to show it off to someone, then continue your work and
save it via "Save" [or the specified shortcut], you will - again - save it as
png/jpeg, although you probably intended to save it as .ora, as you do not
want to lose the layer information).

The solution I see here is an "Export..." option which would not change the
current working file.
