Details:

Most of my work is done for print, so say for example on 3000x3600 size
images to start. Occasionally errant marks are made on the canvas, either by
random accident or from the X11 bug where strokes are drawn when windows are
dragged, and suddenly you end up with huge file sizes when saving from
seemingly out of nowhere. This requires a lot of cropping and maintenance in
Gimp just to keep save times reasonable. I think being able to drag out an
active field optionally would be a good way to keep this under control- a
mockup: http://www.pasteall.org/pic/3706

Ironically the diagonal slash across the pic was drawn when I was taking the
screenshot, again proving how easy it is to make errant marks. Thanks.
