Details:
Currently I believe the radius can be controlled by speed and pressure as
well as a few other things like direction stroke, etc.
I found an online demo of some of the new things that can be done with canvas
that used a web based painting as a demo.
What I like was the "ribbon" brush where the radius is controlled by change
in angular velocity. i.e. if you draw a straight line, the radius is the same
regardless if you draw fast or slow. But when you draw an arc there is change
in angular velocity so the radius expands. The sharper the arc or the faster
the arc is drawn the faster the change in angular velocity and hence the
wider the radius.
(technically it's "acceleration", but only angular acceleration, not linear
acceleration.)
The result is a very nice "ribbon" effect that I don't think is currently
possible with mypaint.

Be sure to set brush to "ribbon"
