Follow-up Comment #2, bug #18188 (project mypaint):
oct8cat: does pressing the Menu key inside Mypaint reveal a popup menu? If
so, you ought to be able to bind the keypress you want there. Might save you
some stress in the short term :) If you don't have a menu key, you can bind
showing the popup menu to a mouse button inside MyPaint's prefs.
jonnor: as I understand it, Unity's appmenu stuff shoves its menu
specifications over dbus, and the menus are shown at the top edge of the
screen by another process which probably does things in the unhelpful Ubuntu
way. With GNOME, at least the sort of GNOME I'm using, it's all handled
in-process and respects the gtk settings you set up.
