Every time I try to fix any of those bugs, I end up thinking about how it all
should fit together, instead of fixing anything...
Maybe the mode changes should be independent of the brush, but then we also
have to remember them per-device somehow?

Also I don't see the point of disallowing to cancel the eraser mode of eraser
brushes? If the user says so, why not? Maybe there was an issue with color
selection?
