Follow-up Comment #3, bug #19710 (project mypaint):
Yet another quick addendum:
The color picker lockup disappears if you move the mouse over the picked color
square. It is not a fix but something tells me the culprit is Ubuntu or Compiz
but this workaround should help if anyone else has this problem.
