Buttons (and a few other context-type actions) should now be working
in the scratchpad in the repo. Thank you so much for trying it out :)
Yes, all work perfectly, thanks to had fixed them that fast.
Quick question about per-painting scratchpads:
I tend to use a single folder to hold all the versions, reference
images, inspirations and experiments for a given project.
Here I use multiple folder inside my project folder ( commons for me are
'Doc' for reference and documentation / 'Net' for Internet exported
pictures , low res jpg / 'Final' for final CMYK file or transmited files
to publishers / 'Resources' for textures, pattern, logo, decals included
as external sources in my pictures / 'WIP' where I stock all the version
of my incremental 'save as' process / 'Concept-art' for rought,
speedpainting, doodles to prepare the project ) . I did a nautilus
script to automate this 'mkdir' creation when starting a new project.
For single painting , I tend to use only 'WIP' / 'Doc' / 'Net'
About 'references' , just a thought : a similar windows panel as the
'scratchpad' with only a 'load' button would be very cool to load a
picture reference in Mypaint as a floating docker. For the moment I use
my picture viewer (Gthumb) with the gnome WM option 'Keep above others
windows' to make it on the top of Mypaint. But this is not top notch ...
when I reduce Mypaint to another apps ( like watching email , changing
music in my player ) the reference picture not follow this 'movement'.
So, here are just a thought as a feature request I met on Mypaint forum,
and who can make easier the handling of a reference picture.
Would it be awkward to have a ".scratchpad.ora" in there too? Same
scratchpad across all of the files for that directory if you choose
it?
Yep, I had a bad experience with hidden files , such as Krita autosaved
document before ; this made dirty all my working directories. I had to
command line with a sort of batch to find all the *. dotted starting
hidden files and clean. Plus I remember as a Windows user in late
2002/2003 Gimp stored some of hidden files next to the saved one ( maybe
like Mac 'dstore' kind of things ) ; but on windows they wasn't hidden
and makes the saving process really a pain. I didn't liked that behavior
at this moment, and to be true that was one late reason I kept use the
Photoshop Element 2.0 bundled with my tablet CD :)
I would prefer this way for the relation if they stand in the same folder :
myprojectname.ora
myprojectname_scratchpad.ora
In other way, I also think storing it in the ~/.mypaint/scratchpads
makes sens instead of storing the scratchpad into the final project folder.
with a finalname as
'~/.mypaint/scratchpads/myprojectname_scratchpad.ora' it would be maybe
easier to Mypaint to open it when myprojectname.ora is called/open.
eg The menu option might read: "Save as project scratchpad"?
Just a thought.
Sure, it would be a comfort to can perform that.
PS
I've just spotted your very generous comment - I may be able to code
okay, but it's tutorials, guides and artwork by artists like yourself
that inspire me to keep trying to paint. I especially enjoyed your
screencast of the 2 dragons and rider from the Sintel DVD - it was the
video that showed me MyPaint and led me here :)
Oh, very cool ! That's really encouraging for my work. Thanks !
Here, I didn't published videos since Blend&Paint DVD ( I did a tutorial
'overdose' recording at this moment :D ) . Now I'm struggling with
doing the next series with my voice over to make them more short and
direct. I still don't like my french accent over video , but maybe I
will be more confortable after more practise. I will continue to do free
tutorial with CC-By license on my website for sure. My actual personnal
target, is to try to keep a Deviant art account alive, and maintain a
gallery on it : I saw many users of FLOSS having gallery there, and it's
a good place to promote portfolio and FLOSS usage too.
