Thanks!* * * *Background and Summary:* *After a competitive evaluation, including an on-site Proof of Concept, DOR has selected Business Objects as its tool set for Business Intelligence (BI). DOR wishes to engage a data architect with tax related business knowledge that has experience with data mining, data warehousing and business intelligence, to support the implementation of the DOR Business Intelligence program. The following position description details the skills and tasks that are required of the application analyst. These tasks/skills do not include database administration support or technical infrastructure support tasks, as they fall under a different support area within the DOR IRM organization*. Reporting to SCDOR IRM Project Manager and working under limited supervision, perform the requirements definition, analysis, implementation, information architecture and metadata creation for DOR business intelligence programs. Work with DOR employees and contractors to understand agency key measures and opportunities for trending and forecasting. Develop Business Intelligence applications for the DOR Data Warehouse and other data sources, with emphasis on both ad hoc reporting and decision analytics. Serve as a resource to Business Objects team that consists of a project manager, technical lead and a developer. *Specific Duties and Responsibilities:* Assist Developer: - Develop approach/methodology for utilizing business requirements to build data marts, universe etc including design deliverables, documentation, testing strategy etc - Work through one or more business areas from the requirements gathering phase to the universe design, data quality testing to user acceptance. Establish a repeatable process for developers to follow. - Setup version control for all deliverables - Assist with extracting data from the DOR Data Warehouse and building data marts - Share knowledge of data mining Assist Technical Lead: - Help with technical infrastructure design, application architecture including strategy for backups - Advise development of methodology for migrating packages from development to test to production - Help with scripts for migration - Help with Universe design Assist Project Manger: - Setup process/methodology for translating business meetings into documents which should be the starting document for universe design, dashboards etc - Look at the existing information gathered from meetings, Data Warehouse data structure and start charting requirements and business documents - Help with project planning * * *SKILLS REQUIRED:* The successful data architect for Business Intelligence requires: - Strong analytical skills. Proficiency in the Business Intelligence. - Experience in working in a Microsoft SQL Server environment using 2003 and 2005 systems. - Strong technical knowledge of various Business Intelligence applications - Experience in Data Mining to include trending, forecasting. - Strong SQL background in creating calculations and variables per the business requirements. - Experience in the use of Microsoft Project Management software to assist in establishing project plans and tracking the progress on projects. - Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. - Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with business users, management, vendors, and peers. - Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time-management skills. - Strong understanding of the deployment methodology concepts including design, build, testing, and deployment. - State tax application experience The individual will operate with very limited supervision, within standards and processes established for the DOR data warehouse and over-all Agency and IRM procedures. With the understanding that the DOR systems include extremely sensitive and confidential information, position requires complete discretion and trustworthiness.
