If you are using a replica, you can grab the information from SHOW SLAVE STATUS or SHOW MASTER STATUS. I'm not too sure if there is a call for non-replicated database servers for this.
BTW, if you aren't locking everything you're dumping, you'll probably never get a consistent state if you want to replay your binary logs. out.
