We're on Solaris, yes. I suspected that paging might be a cause so I reconfigured our QAS server (which also shows the errors) to use /var/mysql in stead of /tmp. But the problem persists. It is always at the same time: when cron runs a script that obtains table info. Everything else seems to work fine (i.e. nothing breaks), so I think I'll leave it till it's time to upgrade.
