If he build using 2.9x would it be stable? (I'm assuming that they are using gcc 3.x from your post)

And the stability issue is specific to Linux only. It's becuase they're trying a new version of glibc (and maybe gcc?). It has nothing to do with the source itself. Jeremy -- Jeremy D.
