Thanks for the comments. I uninstalled mySQL, then I repeated the unzipping operation, and then - as before - I installed mySQL into my C partition. (I am using Win2000 with one fairly small primary partition (C, FAT16, and two logical partitions.) I then tried to compile the following simple one line module in VS Ver 6:-
MYSQL* con; and, to my surprise it compiled with no problems. In other words, all now functions as expected, but why now and not previously I do not know.
