That said, I do believe the new XServes will be great systems with pretty good bang for you buck. As well as a good OS to go with it.
But really, the bottom line is your ability to tune MySQL for what you are using it for.

If the latter applies, you might want to look at an AMD64 box running Linux
(SuSE and Mandrake are two that come to mind as having 64 bit versions, I'm
sure there are others, just haven't kept up to date in that area).
