Btw, what is a logical volume copy? Its not a physical copy? Sounds like
links/aliases. But the actual data is locked in time for the copy?

We are using RHEL4 servers, Red Hat comes with LVM.
So in a perfect world, would you use this replication solution with
mysqldumb or the innodb backup solution, if money were no object?

Money wasn't an issue for us. We are building a financial application for a lending institution. However, if money were a problem, I would still go for the same solution sans the replication server. We found that pairing replication with LVM and using mysqldump works great.

To give you an idea of the scale, our dumped sql file is about 10GB. It compresses down to 1.1GB. It takes 15 minutes to do the dump. It takes 2.5 hours to load.
