mysql: mysql>show status

Where can I get description of parameters that mysql> show status  reports ?
(or mysqladmin ver).
I am particularly puzzled with 2 of them:
Opened_tables, which in my case is 4600 and goes up, and
Open_tables, which in my case is 63 and doesn't change.
(I have only 20 small tables tables.)
