In order to ensure this isn't a hardware deficiency, can you try with an 
alternative DVD playback application temporarily?
Here's some options:

* VLC
* Xine

If you can verify that playback works properly there, we can try to get
this bug forwarded upstream, but we'll also need a few more details:

* Mythfrontend log output
* apt-cache policy mythtv-frontend (To determine the EXACT build you are 
running on)
* What graphics card you are using and what drivers are in use for it

Status in “mythplugins” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
Binary package hint: mythtv

DVD playback buffering problem causes DVD-playback freezing for couple of 
seconds and then it continues normally again. This happens ca. every 5 minutes. 
Is there some DVD buffering setup possibility in Mythbuntu.

I have Mythbuntu 9.10 in use and latest corrections downloaded from Mythbuntu 
repository (06-01-2010). My HW is following:

RAM: Kingston DDR2 4Gb
Motherboard: ASUS M3A78 EM, 780, AM2+, DDR2, mATX
Processor: AMD Phenom Triple-Core 8650, AM2+, 2,30 GHz
Case: Antec Fusion Remote Black EU + RM-200 remote (15c2:0038)
DVD drive: LG DVD+-RW DL, 22x, SATA
