I believe this has been resolved with the latest releases of software -
if you find this to not be the case, please feel free to re-open this
ticket. It won't be fixed in previous versions of Ubuntu because the
package doesn't fit the requirements for backporting. See
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports for more information.

Status in “mythtv-status” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released
Bug description:
Binary package hint: mythtv-status
Produces an hourly email error spam of "mv: cannot stat `/var/run/motd.new': No
such file or directory" as the init script doesn't suppress this spurious error
caused after the file is deleted by a different motd updater.
