This bug is present in the upstream distribution's sample lircd.conf for
macmini. I have filed a bug with them, with a patch attached, see

The key names inserted by lirc configuration (VOLUP, VOLDOWN) from 
/usr/share/lirc/remotes/apple/lircd.conf.macmini seem to be bogus, as they
