Its not "some conflict". The kernel has IR drivers in it now, with protocol decoders, so you get native linux input layer events from most stock remotes, no lirc required whatsoever. There's also an lirc bridge driver in the kernel for "legacy" mode, but the need to disable the in- kernel decoders when using it has been covered umpteen times on multiple mailing lists and forums, and *should* be handled automatically with the latest lirc initscript in ubuntu.

In previous versions of ubuntu I had to install lirc to make it work but now with or without lirc there is nothing. I have followed suggestions in this post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9984844&postcount=4 but they have not worked. When I run irw I get no responses from the remote using option 1 or 2. This has caused XBMC to not being able to use a MCE remote at all, but this is NOT an XBMC problem.
