This won't work with Myth's current structure. Live TV and recordings are very different, with different keybindings for many actions. If the user doesn't know if he's in a recording vs. live TV, he will get very confused when the keys don't work as expected.

One prerequisite to unifying live TV and recordings is a redesign of the interface; for instance, the EPG is only available in live TV, while editing features are only available while watching recordings. With these differences in place, the user must be informed of the current video mode, and hiding the details is impossible. It's better to fix these problems, before you decide to dump the user straight into a recording when he expected live TV.
