We are not destroying potentially useful data for no reason other
than some clean up which is not time critical.

How's it potentially useful?

Mainly for rolling back, but I can imagine that some DVB countries may not work yet with the new code. The dtv_multiplex table could be populated by a script that scans the "unused" dvb_channel/pids/sat tables?

I don't like having completely unused junk in
the database.

Agreed, but as long as it is targetted for removal some time in the future, the impact is minimal?
