Isaac, Bruce: Thanks for the help. As you both suggested, I dropped the columns in question and started the backend. My intention was to report back to you with the error messages that ensued. Unfortunately, there aren't any! Everything is working again!
So, while I am happy (actually, my wife is even happier ;-) this doesn't seem to give me any answers as to what happened. Looking through libs/libmythtv/dbcheck.cpp, my guess is there was race condition in the db schema upgrade between the master and slave. My suspicion is that I started the master and managed to check its status and then start the slave backend, all before the master finished the db upgrade. Does that make sense? Looking at the code, I'm not sure why this would cause a dbver skew, so perhaps my guess is wrong... Peter
