I've noticed this as well. I think it happens when the channel is
broadcasting widescreen aspect footage and then switches to standard
4:3. I'm viewing the output on my Nvidia FX5200 so I don't think it's
the graphics device which is causing the issue.

A good example is CBeebies (childrens TV). Most of their recent stuff
is widescreen which is displayed correctly on the TV, but if they show
an old program the black bars are displayed on the left and right of
the picture, which means that on a 4:3 TV you see black bars all
round.

My old set-top box appears to switch aspects when the program starts
which would probably be the ideal behaviour in Myth as well.
