I think both camps might be satisfied with a cross-dissolve: if the new display faded in as the old one fades out, it would be nice visually and prevent a long period of time with competing translucency. Instead of the regular transition (i.e. the "sliding" in Titivillus"), just ramp down the alpha of the old OSD and ramp up the alpha of the replacing OSD over about half a second.


Of course, I've no idea how easy it is to implement, but I'd prefer to see that sort of transition instead of either the current or the previous code.
