Sorry, I somehow didn't see the reply for a week or so.  I'm not happy
about the number of ifdefs, either, but I also didn't like the idea of
duplicating each of the relevant functions.  I'd originally suggested
simply dropping the fstab versions entirely, but apparently OS X
doesn't have mntent.

What if I move all the ifdef stuff into the header, and use macros to
select the right structures and members?  That might be a little
cleaner than the current way, and a little less prone to future
breakage than duplicating each function that uses fstab/mntent.
