Hu, the NIT can take a huge time to get, why not SDT as that's transmitted more frequently, or event the PAT?

On a slight tangent: NIT scanning has its own pro's: Many of the Astra and hotbird sats have very different customers. These customers use different CA systems. Normally when you want to receive encrypted streams, you will buy an CI module for 1 provider (= 1 particular customer of the satellite). Enabling receiving encrypted streams in myth will give you *all* encrypted streams, including most you cannot decrypt: different CAS, different EMMs.... This could be solved by doing a NIT scan: first check which NITs are present, then present the user with a list of NIT (NIT network id, original network id and descriptor) and let him select which NIT he wants to have. Only channels within the users subscription (or at least from the same broadcaster) will be added at that point.

Cheers,

Rudy
