I've been following this thread and have been
encountering similar problems like Chris is having
with XVMC using the latest svn. I can playback
720p(65% cpu load)/1080i(95% cpu load) using
XV(libmpeg2) just fine on an athlon xp 2500+ (geforce4
mx440/nforce2/kernel 2.6.13) based system. However
when using XVMC I could playback 1080i(50% cpu load)
smoothly but 720p(30% cpu load) content would start
stuttering after an initial pause or skip. Initially I
was using the onboard audio chipset (alsa intel8x0).
After Daniel's suggestion I tried a different sound
card (alsa ice1724) but it still occured. I also tried
with and without the chromakey osd enabled and noticed
no difference.

Then I switched on the "Use Video as Timebase" option
and turned off AC3 passthrough and the 720p/xvmc
playback problem went away for me. However 1080i video
seemed a little less smooth but with good audio. The
reason I disabled using video as timebase was due to
an issue using it and AC3 passthrough together. Using
both of these options caused only a few bleeps of
sound every second or so to be processed on my
receiver yet the video played back smoothly. This
happened on either sound chipset I used too. Anyone
else having an issue using both? It would be great to
be able to have AC3 passthrough and "Use Video as
Timebase" work together since using video as timebase
seems to provide smoother video. Anyways just thought
I'd pass along what I'm seeing. Let me know if I can
provide anymore information. Thanks.
