I tried for several minutes (trying in different ways - chanid instead of channel, etc). I'll do some more testing and let you know what I find.

How quickly after the "jump livetv" are you trying to use the "play channel" command? The location should switch to "playback" as soon as the TV object is instantiated, so it should be available pretty quick.
