Gmail is cute, but still requires you to be on line.  
You still get it at ITS speed and not
your Computer's speed.

Also, having dealt with significant quantities of mail
on Gmail it can't hold a candle to any of the common
email packages for ease of use, speed, or accuracy
of sorting.  Its still a clunky interface, although a pretty
good clunky interface.
