As said below, it does depend on your real-time processing tasks... like resolution/bit rate etc..

I can tell you from experience that I'm using a 300 MHz processor overclocked to about 390 MHz and I am using it as a frontend in one of my bedrooms.

I am also using MPG4 at 4.4 Mb/s transferring it over my 802.11b (yes.. I said b) and it works just about flawlessly.

It depends mostly on your recording settings. If you are doing mpeg2 at 320X240, then there should be no problem. If you have superhighres mpeg4, then you are out of luck. My advice is to give it a try.
