I purchase PCs for a hospital and our failure rate for Dell PC hard disks is -really- bad. Mainly Maxtor and a few WDs. A lot of them fail shortly after deployment. So, i have to agree with people around here. if it doesnt fail within a year you're probably ok :) I've run WD at home forever.. can't say why but they've gotten to be more quiet and with 8mb of cache you just can't go wrong. 3 year warranty makes me feel a little better. but it seems that any and every warranty-replacement plan is just 'feed em refurbs till the warranty term is satisfied' type crap. don't want to deal with that.. owned a Maxtor 850mb disk back in the day. it failed six months after i bought it and so did every replacement they ever sent me. how are they even still around?
